Soop: A BTS Zine is a charity zine featuring the members of BTS in domestic and slice of life situations, inspired by the band's variety program BTS in the Soop.

About

The project was announced on its initial Twitter account, soopzine, on August 1, 2021[1]. Interest checks ran from August 11 to September 1, 2021[2]. The project reported a total of 723 responses[3]. The project ran applications for Spanish/English translation interns for one week starting on August 13, 2021[4].

Contributor applications opened on September 17, 2021 and closed on October 15, 2021[5]. During this time, the project team was locked out of their account due to supposed unusual activity[6]. The team was unable to regain access to their account, and so continued posting updates on their backup account, named soupzine[7]. Because of the confusion caused by the change in accounts, applications were open for one more day[8].

Preorders opened on February 25, 2022 with the following pricing tiers[9]:

  • Leaf Bundle ($10 USD) - Bandana
  • Seedling Bundle ($10 USD) - Digital Zine, Emojis, Lockscreen
  • Sapling Bundle ($25 USD) - Physical Zine, Notepad Stretch Goal
  • Sprout Bundle ($30 USD) - Emojis, Lockscreen, Postcards, Sticker Sheets, Wooden Pin, Wooden Charm, Stretch Goals
  • Blossom Bundle ($35 USD) - Physical Book, Postcards, Sticker Sheets, Notepad Stretch Goal
  • Forest Bundle ($50 USD) - Physical Zine, Digital Zine, Sticker Sheets, Postcards, Wooden Pin, Wooden Charm, Emojis, Lockscreen Wallpaper, Stretch Goals

Any physical orders made in the first 24 hours would receive a free sticker[10]. Digital bundles could be added onto lower tier physical orders for $7 USD. In support of Native American creatives, the project offered the Leaf Bundle featuring a bandanna designed by Twitter artist c_rberus[11]. Stretch Goals included a sticky note pad at 100 orders and washi tape at 200 orders[12]. A third stretch goal was revealed on February 28, 2020, for a free print of the zine's cover and a new sticker by plumadot if preorders reached 400 orders[13].

Preorders ended on April 8, 2022 with a reported total of 530 orders[14]. However due to great demand, the project reopened their shop until April 16, 2022[15]. The project officially closed preorders at 610 total orders[16].

During the project's production period, its social media accoutn promoted Native Nonprofit Day[17]. The project also advertised that all physical orders were packaged in recycled paper from local stores in an effort to reduce waste[18].

Digital orders were sent out on May 18, 2022[19]. Physical orders began shipping on July 13, 2020[20]. Leftover sales began on November 1, 2022, while feaaturing leftover items from the Gateway to You zine project[21]. A giveaway for three zines ran from December 12 to December 19, 2022[22]. The winners were announced to be Twitter users d2soop, namgisdoomboy, and yokshida[23]. Leftovers closed on December 31, 2022[24].

On April 22, 2023, the project was declared complete with a reported donation of $9,664.41 USD to the Navajo Water Project[25]. The organizers hinted a potential second project would come to follow.
