Room 317 is a popular One Direction fanfic by Lellsy. It was initially posted to Livejournal, then moved to Wattpad (except for the explicit sex scenes) and One Direction FanFiction. It features Harry Styles/Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan/Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik/OC. To some it is considered a classic of the 2012-era 1D fandom, and it is known for being sad, and for featuring multiple character deaths.

As of March 28, 2019, Room 317 has more than 2,400,000 views and more than 34,000 votes on Wattpad, as well as 66 ratings on Goodreads with an average of 4.38 stars.

Room 317 is this epic-length fanfiction in the 1d fandom by a user known only as Lellsy. basically a bunch of unfortunate shit happens and this one member of the band keeps getting DEATHLY INJURED and each time he ends up back in the same hospital in Room #317. listen. that shit killed my lil 8th grade soul okay. it’s so good. but it’ll break your heart so many fucking times.[1]

Room 317 is like that door you should never open unless you want the darkness to engulf you. From the memories my mind hasn't repressed, it's like Louis gets super sick and faints at a show and is in the hospital and in a coma and it's all dramatic and 4 years later larry officially get together and Lou ends up in the hospital again & then has to go to some clinic and while he's there harry & liam get in a wreck & harry ends up in the hospital & then I think Liam and Zayn both die. The end.[2]

Remember fucking Room 317 it was the original “THE LARRY FIC” way before TIF was the shit there was Room 317 where you had to know a guy who knows a guy who sucked dick and knows a guy just to get the password and then sometimes it would be taken down then up again. Like if you survived Room 317 drama you have seen some live shit[3]

I just finished reading Room 317. And god i wasn’t prepared for that. For any of that. I just thought “hey it sounds like a angsty but cute fic, i’ll read it”. BUT NO. IT’S HORRIBLE. I FEEL SO BAD. I’VE CRIED 3 TIMES DURING IT AND EVERYTHING IS BAD. AND ALL THE STUFF IN THE END? LIKE. WHAT. NO. I CAN’T DEAL WITH THAT. You guys who have read it know what I’m talking about. Pls feel my PAIN.

I can now say that i understand WHY it’s one of the most famous larry fics. Because man. MAN. Everyone should read it though, don’t let my banter scare you because it was SO GOOD. It’s in the class of These Inconvenient Fireworks if u ask me.

I don’t know what i should do with my life now. I’ve read this for 3 days. I feel so drained. I just, ugh. damn. I need a hug.[4]

I started reading 317 two days ago and let me tell you I have never been so emotionally exhausted after reading anything before in my life. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me happy, angry, sad, confused, and I fell in love with it. Single handedly the BEST fan fiction I have ever read for this fandom….scratch that ANY FANDOM. I lost sleep because I could not put it down. The story, the love, the twists and turns left my heart aching and my eyes damp and my stomach sore from laughing. I cannot put into words how much I LOVED this story and how well the author did of a job with it. At some points I wanted to punch you in the face and at other points I just wanted to hug you and cry because it was so beautiful. The characters and their development was nailed down and spot on and the plot was sewed together so perfectly I forgot I was reading a One Direction fan fiction. All around it was beautiful and devastating and perfect and I recommend everyone read it and then go back and read it again. I know I definitely will.[5]

Fourth Wall Breakage

Based on twitter comments, #Room317 trended on April 26, 2012 and July 13, 2012.[7] The April trending incident seems to be associated with Liam Payne's friend Mazz finding out about the fic.[8][9] Trending on twitter appears to be the reason that the fic was deleted and later moved elsewhere.[10] Twitter shows many distraught fans discovering that the fic had been deleted when they hadn't finished reading it yet.[11] A separate livejournal account was created to house the fic on 28 April 2012.[12]

According to comments on one_direction, fans had tweeted the link to Mazz.[13]
