Moey is a Harry Potter fan writer and "Deputy Headmistress" of The Sugar Quill.

History

Moey participated in early Harry Potter mailing lists, including HP4GU (starting in November 2000).[1] On November 15, 2000, she wrote of discovering ParadigmOfUncertainty:

"Until recently I had declared myself a purest, shunning fan fiction of any sort. However, my Harry obsession recently got the better of me and I took a tip off a message board and decided to check out PoU (just knowing that I would be thoroughly disappointed) Well, having stayed up way too late, two nights in a row, all I have to say is "What was I thinking??" Lori, Penny, Carol, and Cassandra - FABULOUS!"[2]

She got a FanFiction.Net account in December 2000 and posted her first fanwork, a poem called "Could The Snape Save Hogwarts?", on December 26th. She posted "The Yule Brawl" on January 9, 2001; its author's note thanked "the editors at The Sugar Quill".[3] In 2002, her stories also were hosted at the Weird_Sisters Yahoo! group, a mailing list "for the distribution and discussion of Harry Potter fanfiction."[4]

Moey started a Blogspot blog in January 2002[1][5] and moved to LiveJournal in October 2002.[6]

At The Sugar Quill

Moey was "adjunct faculty" as of March 2001[1] and "Professor of Fanfiction" as of January 2002.[5] Around July 2002, she became "Deputy Headmistress".[7] The SQ glossary entry for "Deputy Headmistress" states:

"Deputy Headmistress - Moey. Oh, how do you solve a problem like Moey? How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand? She is gentle! She is wild! She's a riddle! She's a child! She's a headache! She's an angel! She's a pirate! According to Zsenya, a Deputy Headmistress does way more work than her title gives her credit for."[8]

Moey was also known for propagating many Sugar Quill idiosyncrasies, such as the all-caps and with-an-'x' spellings of words such as "ROX" and "SUX", as well as the "secret" of the number 87.

In December 2002, Moey was interviewed alongside other Sugar Quill staff members for a segment on NPR about Harry Potter fanfiction.[9]
