Excerpts

Oz popped my fandom cherry. And for a show about violent men in prison, there really isn’t a more generous, talented and gracious fandom out there. I would not still being doing this if not for Oz.

I admit that Rodney is my favorite character and my love for the show and the fandom begins with him. (Which is quite ironic because I didn’t get the attraction at first. )

Coming from Oz, I think it’s pretty obvious that I have a thing for characters that aren’t perfect. And McKay is arrogant, rude and bad with people, but he’s also brave, loyal, and willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good. He’s also got this wonder and glee for discovery that is so disarmingly charming that you can’t help but love him.

Um, Sheppard ain’t nothing to sneeze at either. LOL

As for the fandom itself, I am still a bit overwhelmed by the sheer size of it. It’s a huge ocean compared to the tiny pond of Oz. However, one of the nicest surprises of that is that there really is room for everything, everyone -- every pairing, every cracked out plot. And the squee of it is just downright contagious.... SGA is my happy place. It’s as simple as that. It’s not that I don’t appreciate angst or that I don’t write it myself. (Hello, you can’t be in the Oz fandom writing about one of the most doomed but gloriously beautiful -- and canon-- slash relationships ever without embracing the angst.) But I see the relationship of McKay and Sheppard as being very similar to those old Tracy and Hepburn films. Banter equals love in my book. And no one banters better than Sheppard and McKay. <3<3<3
