Lance is a member of the Indigo League's Elite Four from Pokémon Red and Blue. He is a fan favorite and the focus of many fanworks. He also makes appearances in Pokémon Gold and Silver, Pokémon Masters, PokéAni and Pokéspe.
The Pokémon Lance is most associated with is by far is his Dragonite. In Japanese, Proton has the name 'Lance', so the two may be confused for one another. It's for this reason that their ship is called LanceShipping in English-speaking PKMN fandom[1].

Lance is very popular for self-shipping and yumejoshi. This is more common than any one canonical character relationship featuring him.
Gameverse
- Lance's most popular relationship his gen (combi in Japanese) one with his cousin Clair. This has no name in English and is often just tagged as Clair & Lance. In Japanese, it's called [x].
- In works for Gameverse!Silver, Lance is often considered to be his adoptive father and there for him when his biological father, Giovanni, is not. Lance & Silver is a great dynamic for both characters in this regard and has its own dedicated following. This is not to be confused with AkaiShipping, their romantic interpretation.
- In Japanese, their combi is called [x] and their romantic interpretation is called [x].
- In works for Ethan, and very occasionally Kris or Lyra, Lance may play a major role in them becoming the Pokémon Champion of the Indigo League. Ethan & Lance, Lance & Kris and Lance & Lyra are common. In Japanese, these combi are called [x], [x], and [x].
