Josuke Higashikata is the protagonist of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable. He is a delinquent and part of the Japanese Yankii subculture. His hair, styled as a pompadour, is very important to him and he is shown to lose his temper whenever someone insults it.

Powers and Abilities

His Stand, Crazy Diamond, is based on the Pink Floyd song Shine on You Crazy Diamond. In order to avoid copyright issues, the English versions of the JoJo anime and video games changed its name to Shining Diamond.

Crazy Diamond has the ability to fix objects, reverting them to a recent previous state. This has massive versatility, and Josuke uses it in many different ways, usually to heal people who have been injured. However, he cannot target himself. The only limits are that it cannot fix things that have been broken for too long, or that are no longer part of the overall object - for example, a button that came off a jacket can no longer be fixed back onto it - and he cannot bring people back from the dead.

Name Etymology

仗 (jo) means a cane or stick, and 助 (suke) means help or aid. This plays into Josuke's role in the series as someone who can be relied upon, or lent upon, to help those in need. The suke can also be read as jo depending on the context, leading to some bullies nicknaming him 'JoJo'.

As a child, Josuke is saved by a mysterious young man. Josuke decides to model his hair after the young man's, seeing him as an idol. It is a common rumor among fans that the mysterious young man was originally created with the intent of a time travel plot, in which Josuke goes back and saves himself. However, Araki confirmed very soon after writing this chapter that it was never intended to be a time travel plotline. In reality, fans most likely assumed it would be as this is how many time travel stories foreshadow the plot, having the character see a future version of themselves.

In online spaces like Twitter, the diamond emoji (💎) is often used by fans to represent Josuke.

Fanon and Tropes

Because Josuke is never seen after part 4, fans like to speculate about his life after the events of Diamond is Unbreakable. Some of the most common headcanons for his future profession include Josuke becoming a cop or a doctor.
