Hide A Heart Of War by RayShippouUchiha is a story in MCU's The Avengers fandom focused on Tony Stark, and the triad pairing of Bucky Barnes/Tony Stark/Steve Rogers. This story is the origin of the Heart Flower AU trope, and inspired the use of the trope in fanworks in other fandoms. As of September 2021, the fic has over 248,000 hits, 20,400 kudos, 1100 comments, and 7000 bookmarks.
Synopsis
Summary
“You’ve got war in your heart boy,” Howard sneers, “don’t ever try and pretend to be anything but what you are.”
Tony feels the familiar burn of a flower mark being etched into his skin but he doesn’t look, doesn’t try and check to see what it is. Instead he keeps his eyes on Howard and his hands cupped around his bleeding mouth and nose.

It’s a classic everyone probably already knows, but when we talk about Tony-centric angst fics this one just can’t be left out.[1]
I remember seeing the art that was made for this fic and scrolling past it on my dash before my brain could catch up with what it had just seen. I really loved the art, even more so when I realized it was Tony. And the fic is amazing. It’s really heavy on the emotional side, but so wholesome in the end. I love it to pieces.[2]
This is probably one of my favorite fanfics of all time. I read it at least once a month and it has a permanent tab open in my browser.It is a Tony/Steve/Bucky fic. Almost a soulmate fic, but the marks that appear are flowers indicating significant events in your life. You are born with one flower, your heart flower, that represents who you are. Tony’s is a clump of yarrow blossoms, meaning war. So from birth, his life is filled with angst. Soul searing angst.
You can stop after the first chapter and it would be finished, but unhappy. Or read the second chapter, where things drastically improve.
