Hastur/Ligur is the pairing of the two demons Hastur and Ligur from Good Omens.

Canon

Hastur and Ligur are two demons who, unlike Crowley, are old-fashioned and seriously committed to bringing about the apocalypse. They show up only briefly in the book, always in each other's company until Crowley melts Ligur with holy water. Ligur is the only character whose death may not have been reversed by Adam Young, but neither version of canon confirms whether this is the case.

Fandom

Prior to the TV series, Hastur/Ligur was a fairly rare ship, sometimes cropping up as a background pairing to Aziraphale/Crowley. Thanks to crossover fics, at the start of 2019 it was outnumbered on AO3's Good Omens section by Castiel/Dean Winchester, Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, and Gabriel/Sam Winchester, and had just barely pulled ahead of Remus/Sirius after years.[1]

Following the TV show's release, Hastur/Ligur became much more popular, though still usually as a background pairing.[2]

Common Tropes and Storylines in Fanworks

Some works assume that Ligur is indeed the only permanently dead character and deal with Hastur's reaction to this, often comparing or contrasting the nature of their relationship (as truer demons) with Crowley's feelings for Aziraphale. Other works bring Ligur back, either through Adam's canonical "reset" of the apocalypse, or through other means.

Fanart based on the Amazon series sometimes features interactions between the frog and chameleon on their respective heads.

Hastur/Ligur works on AO3 are significantly less likely than Beelzebub/Gabriel to be tagged as anything other than M/M. As of late November 2021, Hastur/Ligur works with otp:true on were about 85% M/M,[3] while Beelzebub/Gabriel were about 53% Other, 42% M/F, and 8.5% M/M.[4] While over 3,000 Aziraphale/Crowley works were tagged as Other, the overall percentage of M/M was roughly the same as Hastur/Ligur.[5] Only 4 total Hastur/Ligur works were tagged as Other without also including an M/M tag.
