Get Loved, Make More, Try to Stay Alive is a Torchwood story by Dira Sudis focused on the pairing of Jack/Ianto. It is often considered a fandom classic for the Torchwood and Janto fandom.
Summary
"When we don't die young and violently, we die weird. Well, or all three, case in point."
Author notes on Livejournal
At last: the Torchwood Epic of Ridiculousness and Doom. This is, somehow, renenet's fault. Also omphale23's, I think. And trelkez's and fan_eunice's, probably, even though this ... rather turns their brilliant vid on its head.
Many and effusive thanks to my betas, darthfox and iuliamentis, to fairestcat for all her encouragement, and everyone else who listened, audienced, and generally did not defriend me during the last six months. You guys are amazing, and I couldn't do this without you.
(All parts are posted, but the latter ones have been backdated to spare friends lists.)
Jack/Ianto. Less than 19% mpreg by volume. 68,550 words. R-ish. Spoilers for and references to all of:
Season 2 of Torchwood and Season 4 of Doctor Who.
Reactions and Reviews
I like it because it's painful, as time travel should be. Imo you always leave another time (and the people living there) behind when you time travel. 👀[1]
Torchwood, Jack/Ianto, E - This story takes such an incredible journey, mixing in all the usual weirdness of Torchwood (time travel, alien technology) with the complicated relationship we see play out between Jack and Ianto over the course of the show. It doesn't shy away from the darker side of people and situations, which is something I appreciated about Torchwood.[2]
What a beautifully done timetravel romance. I'm such a sucker for this genre, and Dira Sudis has done a glorious job here -- long, character driven, with several enjoyable twists. This is probably the best known story in the fandom and for good reason; as it's kinda AU due to its future setting, it requires very little canon knowlege to work.[3]
In one of the very early episodes of Torchwood, Jack Harkness has a throwaway line about never being pregnant again, and of course it got latched onto. This takes that, and all the crazy things that happen regularly around/to Jack Harkness, and does a different and, I think, pretty unique take on what could happen. This story manages to also slot itself perfectly into canon and keep everyone true to character, while also presenting a pretty believable future. The time travel doesn't enter the story until about halfway through, but it's integral to the story.[5]
if you're down with mpreg, you MUST check out dsudis's epic Jack/Ianto "Get Loved, Make More, Try to Stay Alive" it's AMAZING[6]
You guys don’t understand, one of my very good TW fandom friends passed away a couple years ago after a long illness, and on our last phone call we talked about Get Loved Make More Try to Stay Alive. After she passed I sat down and read it again in memory of her and UGLY CRIED[7]
