Summaries

An accident with Ancient technology sucks a John and Rodney from an alternate universe onto Atlantis -- and they have very different ideas about sex, marriage and relationships.

The alternate John and Rodney come from a universe where everyone is bisexual and BDSM relationships are the norm. General John Sheppard is Rodney's husband and his top and they are devoted to one another. As the story progresses, we see glimpses of how their universe works, and, of course, there are lots of loving, consensual, gay BDSM sex scenes! Needless to say, having this John and Rodney around really freaks out the Atlantean John and Rodney, but as time goes on, and they see how happy the other John and Rodney are, they start admitting feelings that they've been suppressing. But can they make it work, and just what kind of a relationship do they want to have?" [1]

Reactions and Reviews

I've been a fan of Xanthe's stories for a very long time. From The X-Files fandom to West Wing, and then to SGA, she created many wonderful stories where, although the characters are involved in the BDSM lifestyle, their relationships are always centered around love, caring, and trust, and never primarily about sex. This is what distinguishes her stories from numerous BDSM-focused stories out there. I especially loved her General Sheppard (who is the perfect gentleman when it comes to courtship) as he reminded me of Mr. Darcy of Pride and Prejudice (and we all know that everyone loves Mr. Darcy!). In General & Dr Sheppard, the arrival of the general and his good doctor stirs up some interesting feelings in Colonel Sheppard and Dr. McKay of the SGA world we are more familiar with. Not everyone is meant for the BDSM lifestyle, but perhaps the colonel and his Rodney don't dislike it as much as they originally thought? Highly recommended.[2]

This well thought out story is awesome. It's very well written and interesting. This was the first story I had read of Xanthe's and I'm glad because it lead me to her other stories and anothers. [3]

There are some hilarious moments here and Xanthe’s sense of humour is delightful. I liked the ideas of parallel universe and the same characters from a different universe meet their other versions. Exactly same genes, but they turn out differently because they live in a society with dissimilar rules. I found Rodney in our universe rather annoying at times, sharing the same exasperation the other Rodney had to experience. But ah well, John was determined to have him so whatever makes John happy. :) [4]

I'm sure you all are waiting for me to write a real recommendation and less of the squeeing variety, but part of it is that a) I don't want to spoil it for you and b) I rec because it's easier than writing - as the community icon says.

Summary of the story - Alternate universe McShep get into our universe. AU McShep are in a relationship and where they're from BDSM relationships are the norm. Our universe McShep are not in a relationship.

I forget all the kinks that are in this, but suffice it to say it's a BDSM story and very kinky and you shouldn't read if you're easily squeeked. [5]
