Fool's Gold, also known as the Carmilla High School AU, is a high school AU fanfic written in the Carmilla fandom. The fic is one of the most, if not the most, popular fics in the fandom; on Archive of Our Own it has the most hits, kudos, and bookmarks of any work in the Carmilla tag.

Synopsis

Carmilla HSAU, or the one with GSA co-captains LaFontaine and Perry, puppy quarterback Kirsch, track team captain Danny, broody teenager Carmilla and Laura who is about to find out she is not as heterosexual as she thought.
[co-written by Olivia (turnandchasethewind.tumblr.com) and Bianca (felixdawkins.tumblr.com)]

Reactions and Reviews

I don’t think there is a creampuff left that hasn’t read this Highschool AU, but it’s always a honorary mention in my books. But this is about Carmilla and Laura going through highschool trying to figure out what they want, and come on people we all know that they are going to end up together, so why is it always so difficult for them to figure that out. Watch as these teenagers do everything in their power to avoid what everyone wants! Erjgh! Also this has to be one of my favorites for the simple implications of The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink. Yes, thank you so much for that!!! :D[1]

I mean, you’ve probably read this already. It’s the most popular Carmilla fic on AO3. It’s worth the hype. Destroys me every time I read it.[2]

If you haven’t read this yet, you definitely should. It will probably destroy you though.[3]
