- Hurt/Comfort: most commonly with Izzy being hurt and Ed and Stede providing comfort, but you can also find some fics where Ed or Stede are the hurt ones
- BDSM: usually with sub Izzy, dom Stede, and Ed being either a dom or sub; sub Stede is fairly rare
- Darkfic: some fics have the relationship being severely uneven with Stede and Ed treating Izzy as below them, these may include elements like dehumanization, non-con or dub-con
- Modern AU: usually with Ed and Izzy being together first in some fashion, whether that's working together, being friends or together romantically and then Ed meets Stede. Although, there are occasionally stories where Izzy and Stede meet and begin a relationship first before Izzy bringing in Ed. In modern settings Ed and izzy can have a variety of jobs, from mechanics to bar owners, Stede usually tends to be still wealthy and recently divorced.
- Stizzy Centered: because Ed has some sort of relationship with Stede and Izzy individually, many fics focus on Stede and Izzy and how they could overcome their antagonism and become closer, thus closing the triangle.
- Past relationship: many fics, be they canon related or AUs, will portray Ed and Izzy as having had a past sexual or romantic relationship; often this has concluded before Ed meets Stede, but some stories will have Izzy and Ed still together in an open relationship.
