Don't Mess Around with Jim is a Jim/Blair story by Karen/MsGordo/kipplemine.

Reactions and Reviews

Summary: Blair is helping a friend take a group of under-privileged kids to an amusement park for the day. His only request is that his friend call the station and let Jim know the situation. Combine a cell phone with bad reception, a message that goes to voicemail instead of to Jim, and an unfortunate selection of words that made it through the static, and the MC squad is sure that Blair has been kidnapped.

As they gather up warrants and storm out to scour the city, loaded for bear, Blair endures the torture of being forced to go on ride after ride. Well, he said he liked the roller coaster, didn't he?

Reccer's Notes: The OTT reaction of every person to Blair's apparent kidnapping is just plain silliness. There's a touch of angst and a touch of tenderness as well. This was originally posted at 852 Prospect under the pseud Karen. Enjoy.[1]

Thanks to a bad phone connection, Jim thinks Blair has been kidnapped when really Blair is off at an amusement park having fun (yes, really). Unable to contact his partner, Jim proceeds to rip through the Cascade underworld looking for him and, in the process, arresting virtually every bad guy on the streets. This is just one big great ball o' fun. Admittedly at times it goes a little overboard (especially with Jim's reactions near the end), but by that point you'll be laughing so hard you don't care. One thing's for sure, after this incident *no one* in Cascade will be messing with Jim (or Blair).[2]

As a reader we already know that Blair’s safe and sound so watching the stress and turmoil of the other characters as they set out on their man hunt is a fun and fresh experience; one that has you smirking like a fool one moment and then feeling sorry for them in the next. What I find most appealing about this piece is the fast pace and the way in which the author presents it in a fun and angsty manner. This is an entertaining and worthwhile read.[3]

Her tags are as funny (and as cracky) as the story. I'm so glad she's started posting her stuff at AO3. Good rec.[4]

They certainly are *grins* and like you I'm glad she's adding her to work to A03 too. I really enjoyed this one, its nice to know that you liked it too.[5]

Karen is my all time favourite comedic writer who can also, as you say, add in the angst and pluck at the heartstrings. Her characterizations are bang on and her situations are always fun and often original. GREAT REC!!!!! [6]

Yes, she has great comedic style. I can see why she's your favourite and I'm really glad she's reposting her work on A03 cause I wasn't in the fandom when she originally posted them.[7]
