Summaries

From an ad in Warped Space #37: "A novella describing what happened to Lord Darth Vader after the end of Star Wars. Limited Edition -- only as many copies that are ordered will be printed."

From a 1987 T'Khutian Press catalog: "It follows Darth Vader's escape from the destruction of the Death Star at the conclusion of STAR WARS, as he spun helplessly out of control in his T.I.E. Fighter. Written in 1978, before the STAR WARS sequels, it offers an alternative view of events that may have occupied Vader between the events of STAR WARS and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK."

From Star Wars Zine Bibliography: "After Star Wars, Darth Vader spinning out of control, lands on planet with a droid and a blind female Jedi whom he marries."

Author's Thanks

From the zine: "The author wishes to take this opportunity to express her thanks to those who offered to read this manuscript in order to smoothe [sic] out the worst of the rough places. A special word of thanks is hereby given to one particular individual who furnished the corks needed to stop up some of the most obvious 'holes' in my theories."

Reactions and Reviews

Following Darth Vader's escape from the Death Star in Star Wars, this novel is an alternative view of what occupied Darth Vader between the first and second movies. [1]

Dark Interlude is a perfect MarySue of such classic construction that it deserves to be bronzed for posterity. In it, Vader falls in love with a beautiful, sweet, and talented girl, has an affair with her, and then loses her tragically when she dies of a brain tumor. The most interesting twist of the plot is that the two make love in spirit bodies on the astral plane -- and the girl gets pregnant. [2]

Vader has had his ups and downs in fan fiction. Before Jedi he was most often depicted as a black-hearted villain with no redeeming qualities. But before TESB he had a more ambivalent treatment. "Dark Interlude" by Sharon

Emily finds Vader falling in love with a beautiful, if blind, Jedi girl. [3]
