Bokuto Koutarou/Kuroo Tetsurou is a slash rare pair in the Haikyuu!! fandom. They are widely known together as Bokuroo, both in a romantic and platonic sense. They are close friends and rivals, sometimes regarded as the "best bromance in history of sports anime."[1]

Canon

Kuroo and Bokuto are both 3rd years and captains of their respective high school volleyball teams. Bokuto is Fukurodani's wing spiker and ace, while Kuroo is Nekoma's middle blocker. It is unknown how and when exactly they met, but their first appearence is during Tokyo training camp arc. During that interaction, they're playing volleyball, teasing each other and bantering, as well as ganging up together to pester other characters.[2] Kuroo practicing with Bokuto and Akaashi during the training camp suggest they must have known each other for a while, and their ample understanding of the other's abilities corroborates the theory.[3] Outside the court they get along pretty well, sometimes fighting and goading each other into doing silly stuff.[4] But during matches, their competitiveness rises and they turn into full-on rivals who admire and compliment each other (reluctantly and inwardly).[5]

While they don't have that many interactions in canon, their friendship dynamic is one of the funniest in the entire series.

Fanon

In the Haikyuu!! fandom, they are mostly perceived as "best bros" and their bromance sparks lots of shitposts on social media sites, such as tumblr and twitter. Teaming up to scheme and fool around, Bokuto is normally interpreted as prone to bad (or great!) ideas, while Kuroo, the most sensible of the two, is the instigator who would only stop him if it seems like they will actually die.[6]

When perceived romantically, their most popular tropes are friends to lovers, rivals to lovers, college AU and living together. They have a lot of potential for domesticity, as well as teenage angst. Some of the recurring themes in bokuroo-centered fanworks is coming of age, self-discovery and first times.
