Another stunning fic by Kirby. It's dark, it's deeply powerful, and it's another favorite of mine. An exploration of themes few others dare to touch -- the edge of madness that attends a powerful desire, the lengths to which Qui-Gon goes to take what he wants, and the consequences for all involved -- this is a must read.[1]
No redemption here, folks. Actions taken under the influence of evil twist desire into cruelty. After the act, Qui-Gon both desires Obi-Wan and wants to be free of him because of his guilt. Obi-Wan's body reacts even as he experiences fear and pain, and he himself became adept at self-deception and deceipt. What's left, after everything good has been destroyed? Only the truth, finally, and it certainly doesn't set anyone free.[2]
This is beautifully formatted and reads terribly easily, and doesn't let you go. I started, and then RL pulled me away within the first scene. But it haunted me, damnit! <g> And when I rediscovered it, I found my first impressions were accurate. It's one helluva story.Without warping, Kirby Crow manages take these characters to their extremes. Very dark. Highly reccomended.
Post Script: I'm not a fan of death stories. But, well, you can tell I liked this one.[3]
Just when I think this fandom has already plumbed its potential darkness, someone else comes along to prove I’m very *very* wrong. (D) Bad Seed, by Kirby Crow is a perfect example (and a beautifully written and formatted one at that).[4]
qui-gon/obi-wan, angst, au, death, non con, post-tpm, suicide~
this is a warped au deviating from all established canon. obi-wan is jealous of anakin, qui-gon's dealing with issues of things he never should have done and anakin not even knowing the potential he holds. this is very much an au, in which qui-gon abuses his role as obi-wan's master. obi-wan is jealous and bitter about anakin and lashes out but not with fists nor saber. and he makes a choice, one for the best but leads to his own damnation, down a path he never should have walked.[5]
