Summaries

"Bodie and Doyle spend the afternoon at the beach, where Bodie can no longer resist the allure of Doyle. They slip off to the deserted beach shacks for a bit of togetherness."[1]

"B&D at the seaside; mild flirting and B wondering if D really would reciprocate his love, especially after they kissed for a truth or dare game at a CI5 party. D, who does, realizes B's feelings and signals reciprocity. They go into a beach cabin to make love, and live happily ever after."[2]

Reactions and Reviews

Sebastian is one of the best-loved writers in Pros for good reason. She spans the spectrum from lighthearted fluff to much more complex, darker stories, and handles them all deftly. This one is one of her romps -- Bodie and Doyle have skived off for the afternoon to go to the seaside for some sun. One thing leads to another, and a wonderful time is had by all. If you're in the mood for a story that's both sweet and hot, try this one.[3]

Another one I re-read quite often, and just about perfect from start to finish. Again, excellent description -- I can see that beach, and smell it and hear it -- and characterization. One of the better first-time stories, I think.[4]

""B&D Beside the Sea" is a wonderful little gem from the "First time" genre. After a great opening with Bodie lusting after Doyle, they immediately proceed to anal sex, with Doyle being penetrated for the first time (standing UP, no less) and using suntan oil for lubricant. And guess what, they had great sex. Not at all realistic, but I think it is a much better slash story (it was also better written, so maybe it comes down to good writing, good stories -- genre be damned).[5]

A fun first-time story, a romp and frolic at the beach with the two of them managing--naturally!--to consummate their new relationship despite the public venue. I love Sebastian's eye for detail, the way she gives us just enough glimpses of other characters and the scene to locate us nicely alongside Bodie and Doyle in their surroundings. We get Sebastian's trademark melding of under-the-skin character depiction with snapshot scene-setting in a first-time story set on the solid rock of their long-term partnership. This is one of her many early circuit stories and serves up a wholly charming dish of sun, sea, sand, suntan oil, and sex.[6]

I might as well state my bias upfront: Sebastian is my favourite writer. If I could recommend only one author to be read, it would be Sebastian (there may be more than one writer by this name in fandom at large; this is the Sebastian who wrote Pros and Blake's 7 slash in the 1980's and 90's). One of the cool things about her writing is that a significant change can be seen in it over the years she was in fandom. She developed as a writer, increasingly producing more layered and complex texts. Hence, her later stories are more often recced. Her earlier work comprises mostly simpler, often sweeter, tales, many of them first-time situations: and they're just as fine in their way as the later ones, and more beloved by some fans than her mature work. So, moving on from specific holidays to what the lads get up to during their time off, here's an older circuit story of Bodie and Doyle at the beach. We get Sebastian's trademark melding of under-the-skin character depiction with snapshot scene-setting in a first-time story set on the solid rock of their long-term partnership. It serves up a wholly charming dish of sun, sea, sand, suntan oil, and sex.[7]

another unapolagetic first-time pwp, heavy on the schmoop, with a somewhat annoying rhymed title. but very hot. [8]
