Before Terry McGurrin, an executive producer for the Total Drama series who frequently interacts with fans, confirmed she was latina[1], some theorized she could be Arab. Autistic!Axel is also somewhat common, since the idea of a zombie apocalypse interests her so much.
When her design was first revealed, some fans joked she looked like a Courtney/Duncan lovechild.
In Total Roblox Drama, she is called Alex. Fans may call her this outside of the Roblox fangame.

In early Total Drama: Island (2023) fandom, she was most shipped with Nichelle by fans, forming Axel/Nichelle. This was somewhat of a juggernaut pairing for both characters. When Total Drama: Island (2024) aired in late 2023, many fans were shocked when she began dating Ripper during the season. Although not seen much yet on Archive of Our Own, this new canonical pairing has inspired many fanworks like Axel/Nichelle had on other platforms such as TikTok and Tumblr.
As of December 2023, Axel/Ripper is a divisive pairing in TDI2024's fandom for confirming that Axel was not a lesbian and that Millie/Ripper, another fan favorite pairing, would be unlikely to happen in the future as well.
