Original post

bitches in fandoms will use "the women aren't well developed characters and they're boring bc the writers are misogynists and didn't give them anything >:(((" as an excuse to never talk about any female characters but then they'll have an entire made up backstory and 700 fics on ao3 for background male character #4 who doesn't have a canonical last name.[1]

#oh but in canon the men get all the good writing so that’s why we ignore the women in fandom #it’s too hard to give them personalities #proceeds to write about male characters who have little to no resemblance to their canon selves
#I love when fanfic writers claim that shit is canon's fault with one side of their mouth #and say canon is a set of vague guidelines to be ignored at best with the other[2]

I've seen that happen in the Kingdom Hearts fandom many years ago, thankfully the fans who do respect female characters grew in number over the years and actually gave them the love they deserve.

(Especially Kairi, she deserves better)

#tw: sexism #fandom discourse #kingdom hearts #i love kh but even i agree it's got some issues #both canon and fanon[3]

I've noticed this with black characters too. They'll swear up and down that black characters don't get enough screen time/development but when you actually go into fandom spaces they'll only focus on the white and asian bg characters EVEN IF THE PROTAG IS BLACK.
#like #what's the point of hollering about diversity if you're still going to ignore black characters in fandom #people (tv/movie execs) will use that as gauge to see if black-led media #especially cartoons #is worth investing in[4]

They shouldn't need an excuse! Androphilia is reason enough![5]
