Missed off Fanlore - tut tut. Will add when I go and add my review.This is a long post 'Pressure Point' fic, which I'll admit now I skipped almost entirely after hitting this exchange between Avon and Cally:
"That is a cruel thing to say. You know he did not intend for Gan to die. Blake is not to blame. If anyone is guilty, it is the Federation."
"You are very understanding and more forgiving than I. It could be you or Vila or Jenna who dies next time, don't forget."
"Or you."
"No, it won't be me, because I won't be stupid enough to follow him blindly."
It's just So. Boring. I agree that Avon and Cally both have a slightly awkward twist to their dialogue... and I can almost hear Avon saying the final line... it's almost there, just because Avon's such a weirdo, but it doesn't work - it just falls flat. Rather than sounding like Avon, it feels like we need to know this information and therefore he is saying it - but it's functional dialogue that doesn't even have a function, because we're all aware this is how he says he feels.
Anyway - this fic is so weird and flat. (Oh man, I just skimmed a few pages on and Jenna shoots Avon for having sex with Blake... and presumably dies? I'm glad I skipped). And it goes on forever.[1]
