A Brighter Light is a charity zine focused on the character Ventus from Kingdom Hearts.

About

An interest check for the project ran from September 12 to October 14, 2019[1]. Initially, the project was meant to be a digital zine with a merchandise bundle due to difficulties faced in planning for physical copies[2]. Moderator applications were open from October 20 to October 27, 2019[3]. Artists and writers could begin applying as contributors from November 3 to November 25, 2019[4].

The project went dormant after a contributor spotlight posted on March 2020, then returned with an update on August 10, 2020[5]. The update cited the COVID-19 pandemic as the reason production slowed down and also announced a new mod team had been assembled.

Preorders were originally meant to begin January 3, 2021, but was delayed to the next day due to complications with payment processors[6]. Preorders were run with the following pricing tiers[7]:

  • The Sleepy ($15 USD) - Digital Zine
  • The Dandelions ($20 USD) - Digital Zine, Icons, Digital Wallpaper
  • The Chirithy ($25 USD) - Physical Zine, Digital Zine
  • The Wayward Wind ($35 USD) - Physical Zine, Digital Zine, Icons, Digital Wallpaper, Die-cut Sticker, Postcard, Bookmark
  • The χ-blade ($45 USD, Limited) - Physical Zine, Digital Zine, Icons, Digital Wallpaper, Die-cut Sticker, Postcard, Bookmark, Keychain, Washi Tape, Candy Charm

Preorders ended on February 6, 2021, although digital copies continued to be sold afterwards[8]. Shipping for contributor bundles began approximately July 30, 2021[9]. Preorders began shipping on August 2, 2021[10]. Digital orders were sent out on August 2, 2021[11].

The projects online storefront reopened for second sales on November 11, 2021, until supplies ran out[12]. Leftovers ended on December 18, 2021[13].

To close off the project, a final announcement on December 27, 2021, reported that $1,407.24 USD made from the zine was donated to Feeding America[14].
