31 Days is a challenge that lasts for a full month, with a new prompt each day. There were 12,511 entries and 14,723 comments made in the LiveJournal community between 2005 and 2022.
As of 2022, the LiveJournal was primarily used to crosspost prompts, with most fills being posted on AO3 and crossposted to the Dreamwidth community. As such, comments on fills are now mostly left on AO3. The Dreamwidth community, started in 2013, lists 14,943 entries, with only 429 comments.
Rules
1. Create a fanwork (fanfiction, fanart, podfic, graphics...) for a prompt and post it on the day of that prompt.
2. Once a day/prompt passes you by, you can still post your work on the last day of every month, also known as Amnesty Day.
3. There are no sign-ups. Feel free to write about any character or pairing in any fandom you like. RPF and original fiction are welcome.
4. Any rating is allowed. Please label your fanworks with any appropriate warnings.

31_days Theme Exchange
From late 2008 to early 2009, there was an exchange called the 31_days Theme Exchange. The full details weren't listed in the community's profile, but the exchange community was moderated by k_puff and users were asked to use the "normal 31_days format" in the header of their post.
