Yaoi Niwa was a Spanish-exclusive online bimonthly zine focused on M/M content, consisting of fiction, illustrations, reviews, etc. "Niwa" is the Japanese word for "garden"; the zine's subtitle was "Tu jardín Yaoi" (Your Yaoi Garden).
Each issue is themed around a different trope/genre/kink, such as superheroes or BDSM, and ends with a short comic "Atogaki" (Japanese for "afterward"/"postscript").
This is the introduction of the first issue (translated from Spanish):
Dear and appreciated reader, we want to tell you that this zine is dedicated to the marvelous world of Yaoi, and it could lead to being branded (and it's right!) as mean, unknown and ungrateful.Yes, dear public, because this you have right now on your hands is the joint effort of a group that has put its faith in work and has taken seriously the art of Yaoi. A group that has weathered storms, that has endured extremely tedious work and student days and, incidentally, annoying environmental viruses. However, the group has managed to stay together to present with humility the first issue of our beloved zine "Yaoi Niwa" or Yaoi's Garden. This emerges as a proposal for information, creation and appreciation of the art of YAOI; like that, all caps as it should be.
We want to share in this space something more than a simple hobby and do it with quality. This magazine wants to grow and spread like an artistic epidemic that encourages the conversation and knowledge of the genre.
Each issue will contain a poster, a new chapter of a original story, stormy yaoi love stories and commentaries about interesting themes surrounding this genre between excellent articles.[1]
