y’all love the morally gray, snarky, grief stricken characters until it’s a woman. i’ve seen so much discourse regarding female characters who display the exact same character traits as male leads and are criticized for it while the men are praised. let women be cruel and vindictive. let them deal with their grief and trauma in destructive ways. let them be real. give them the same treatment you would give to your favorite male love interest. #nesta archeron #aelin galythinius #manon blackbeak #ya fantasy #amren #bryce quinlan #zoya nazyalensky #jude duarte #sjmaas #book women #juliette cai[1]

Is this about Wanda? Because it made me think of her[2]

even if a character is just mean and critical without explanation. if it’s a guy this is like charming and funny but if it’s a girl she’s a bitch[3]

That’s why I love Katherine Pierce/Katerina Petrova so much in Vampire Diaries. She has some moments that show her humanity and the fact that she does care about things deep down, but she never gets a redemption arc. There are times when it seems like she might, but she never follows through because that’s not who she is. She’s mean and sarcastic and cunning right to the bitter end.[5]

#i love madam yu she's allowed to be terrible #she's allowed to be a bad mother #she's allowed to go a little apeshit #and i hate this double standard so much #it's true that bad mothers get more vitrol #how is yu ziyuan being a bad mother a poor writing and mysoginism??? #actually calling yu ziyuan a badly written character is misogynist #she gets some background that can give us some idea what made her so bitter and terrible #the whole dynamic of this messy jiang family is so great and there's so much to dig into #just because a female character is horrible in a way that is inexcusable it doesn't make her bad written and misogynist #having the good mother as the only allowed and correct way to write female characters is misogynist #it's like some ppl in fandom are as obsessed with the idea of 'perfect mother' like the rest of the patriarchal society #they may even allow female characters to show their anger #but when they are mothers the suddenly they hold them to some ridiculous standards #they aren't allowed to fuck up even a little #have to bottle up all their anger #act absolutely perfect #and have all their emotional issues perfectly sorted out #i'm so fucking tired of this #we deserve some bad mothers representation! #let women be a mess and because of that be horrible to their children! #the point is you don't have to like her #you can hate her all you want and declare her unredimable for you or whatever #but don't call that lazy writing or say that characters like this shouldn't be portrayed in fiction #some humans are good some are horrible #let the women be human!

humbly suggesting Adelaide[7]

yes gods im so sick and tired of people fawning over male mass murderers/villains/morally grey characters but then in the same breath saying that all women who so much as breathe wrong in canon/are misrepresented in fanon are evil and irredeemable. like y’all LOOOOOVE villainy and tragic backstories until it’s a woman possessing those traits. #makima #reze #raiden ei #raiden shogun #herrscher of the void #mobius honkai #la signora #arlecchino #genshin yae #shenhe #herrscher of thunder #raiden mei #kiana kaslana #yoru csm #yoru chainsawman #war devil[8]
