Whispers in a Dead Man's Ear is a Spuffy fic. It received nominations for numerous awards, including the Blood Ties Awards, Love's Last Glimpse Awards, and the Lost in Spike Awards, the latter for which it won Best Angst, Best Tears, Best Written, and Judge's Choice. It was hosted on I'll Be Your Mirror. It is included on many rec lists.[1][2][3][4]

Summary

So many years, so many conversations; how many whispers have passed between Buffy and Spike, and what have they meant?

A/N: Each installment deals with a different, canon-based moment in which Buffy and Spike have a conversation to which no one else is privy, a conversation that serves as a watershed moment in their relationship. The series spans a period beginning post-season 2 of BtVS and ending post-Not Fade Away.

Reactions and Reviws

Your ability to use physical description of body language, scenery, texture, scent and color gives this so much richness. It immerses the reader fully into the moment of the story. I could picture every little twist of Spike's lips, every smirk, and all of Buffy's irritated, and then pained, facial expressions:

Your story is absolutely fantastic, I cannot believe I've never stumbled on it before. It certainly does not get the praise it deserves, a problem to which I will remedy this very instant. It should most definitely be on every rec page out there, people have no idea what they're missing. It's breathtakingly painful and beautiful to read, and so in character that I have no trouble whatsoever imagining those scenes in between episodes, at the same time that i'm painfully aware that, in harsh reality, they are missing from the Buffyverse. All in all, thank you for the brilliant experience.
