From the editorial:

I am grateful to Sue Frank and Gennie Summers for helping me to produce this work in fanzine form. For the record, this novel was actually well-received by both agent Hy Cohen, and the editor of Pocket Books, Dave Sters. It was Paramaount that flatly rejected this work because they didn't want any extensive character bios on Next Generation characters while the show was still airing. This policy has recently changed in light of releases like "The Prime Directive" and "Vendetta," and I'm in the process of resubmitting this manuscript for reconsideration. But any aspiring writer should take to heart what author Ann Crispin told me at an August 1990 Toronto Trek convention: getting into the inner circle of Trek writing is very hard and doesn't pay much. She recommends publishing a regular science fiction work first, before attempting a Trek novel. There are only twelve slots open each year, and most of them are given to firmly established writers. In closing, I'd like to acknowledge members of both The Klingon Assault Group and the International Federation of Trekkers.... for their support of this work...
