Reactions and Reviews: Issue 3

Now the bad - VOICE OF ORACLE 3. 62 pages of completely unreadable AA gestetnered printing. I picked this up at Galacticon and think the price was £1.50 but can't recall. The artwork (mostly by J.D. Humphries) is quite good, and definitely the best part of the zine. The print was so bad I couldn't really concentrate on any of the stories, but they were all pretty dull and non-eventful, intermingled with some Star Trek bits at the end, one reasonably amusing page story by the above mentioned J.D. Humphries and some very inane comments introducing and ending each article from the editor. She does apologise for the printing in the zine, but if I were producing zines, would certainly not have the nerve to charge for such a thing. (Ed. - never heard of this one. Anyone out there disagree??) [1]

Reactions and Reviews: Issue 5

[Crossroads]: While I'm listing British pieces, I'd also like to put in an "Honorable Mention" for a little story called "Crossroads". I have no idea who wrote it, as the author's name was missing from the copy I have. (Any ideas, anyone?) This is a fun little story recounting how *one* fan thought the series might end, probably written fairly early on in the life of the series. Blake has won his battle, and elections are about to be held that will undoubtedly result in making him President of the new Federation -- and he can't quite figure out why he isn't happy. (Avon knows, though...) This piece is heavy on the sweetness-and-light (which is why I think it was written early on -- Gan is still alive in this, for one thing), but I still like it. Every so often, I *enjoy* a little sweetness-and-light, even in B7... (OK, so I have a perverse streak.)[2]
