A computer scientist and statistician by day, consumer of huge amounts of fanfiction and manga by night. The name is a play on the Sith Code, because brokenchains is apparently a popular nick.
Fannish History
Got into fandom in the early 2000s through the German Stargate fandom site stargate-planet.de (which still exists and looks remarkably similar to its original form) and the startrek.de Forum. IRC channels, especially on Star Trek, and Star Trek role playing also played a huge role in my early days as a fan. Pretty soon after that, some time in 2003/04, I discovered some German Harry Potter fanfiction sites and then FF.net, which I still hold in high regard for teaching me more English than school ever could. (I can still pinpoint this exactly as my English grades increased dramatically with about a year of lag.)
I've stayed almost exclusively in HP fandom for years, only deviating from it through some crossover fics. Between 2008 and 2010 I expanded my horizons especially towards anime and manga fandom, starting with the standard shounen shows Bleach and Naruto. (I had seen some of the classics before, like Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Lain, but those long-running shounen shows have been and are still more suitable for fanfiction.)
In 2012, I joined tumblr, mostly for purposes of following Legend of Korra fanartists and reblogging their fanart. Through tumblr, I broadened my horizons, including some smaller fandoms, some of which are now among my favorites, and got into seasonal anime. I started a (currently on hiatus) PMMM fanfic: Hockey Morning in Mitakihara.
Nowadays, I spend most of my time curating fanart on tumblr or writing amateur analysis of anime I'm currently watching or of manga or fanfiction I'm currently reading. After the (as of the time of writing, Dec '18) still ongoing tumblr nsfw purge, I might switch my main platform soon.

Harry Potter fanfiction is still an all time favorite of mine, but a lot of anime has found its way into my heart, chiefly among them Yagate kimi ni naru/Bloom into you and Puella Magi Madoka Magica, which are both my current main fandoms.
