Fandom Biography
I'm an archivist, avid reader, occasional author and website junkie who tends to stay with a fandom far longer than is strictly healthy. For this reason I haven't gone through many fandoms - I've only been really active in Buffy, Angel the Series and Lord of the Rings, but I'm certainly a fan of many things. Current interests include Supernatural, Highlander, Merlin (BBC), Heroes or Blood Ties.
I first discovered fandom in the late 1990's and while things that long ago are a bit blurry, I'll still try to come up with the most important dates.
1999
- By doing a search on Altavista I suddenly realize that I'm not the only Buffy fan in the whole wide world. I'm very relieved. I become a member of the largest German Buffy mailinglist until the list fades out of existence after the shows was cancelled after seven seasons.
2001
- The Buffy spinoff Angel the Series starts to air in Germany. Together with a friend, we decide to celebrate the occasion with a fansite. With time, it turns into one of the largest German Angel the Series sites around, with a friendly community, volunteers and quickly growing content.
2004
- I've read quite a bit of fanfiction featuring either Buffy/Angel or Buffy/Spike. By 2004 I've already seen Lord of the Rings and liked the movie, but I hadn't checked out the fandom. A good friend provided me with a list of recommended fiction and I was instantly hooked. I fell in love with the concept first brought up by the Mellon Chronicles - that Aragorn and Legolas knew each other before the quest and had to survive all kinds of crazy adventures, usually entailing some torture and Hurt/Comfort.
- Nearly at the same time I sink my teeth into slash, both FPS and RPS. For that reason, I get an account on Livejournal, because a large portion of fic is flocked.
- In fall 2004, I attend my first Convention ever, Ringcon in Bonn, Germany, together with a few people from the mailing list that accompanies the Mellon Chronicles.
- Angel the Series is cancelled after five seasons. The website does not see any further updates and goes into archive-mode.
2005
- Because I read a lot on Fanfiction.net I get an account.
- Owners of Aragorn Angst is born in reaction to the fact that fandom seems to be full of people adoring Legolas. The mailinglist is created at least partly as a joke, but ends up being a small, but very active list, of which I become co-moderator.
- I take over Naice a Nilme from the original owner, Aragornwriter, and turn the handcoded site into an EFiction archive. It's a home for angst and drama stories centering around Aragorn and/or Legolas.
- Teitho, which was first hosted at the website of the Mellon Chronicles moves to its new desitantion. It is first moderated by Aragornwriter, later by Alina and me.
- My own pet project Borderland is born, an archive for Lord of the Rings crossover and modern day stories.
- In fall, I once again attend RingCon, this time in Fulda, Germany.
- After much prodding, I write my first fanfic.
2006
- I sign up at Mirrormere to publish my slash.
- Once again, I'm at RingCon.
2007
- I get an account at Skyehawke, which will soon turn into my main account for archiving fiction.
2008
- Never Enough Heroes is born, a blog tied to Naice a Nilme, hosting fanfic recs.
- I move my collection of read fic to Delicious.
2009
- While still crossposting blog entries to Livejournal, I move my fannish home. The new site, called Unspoken, is kindly hosted by Aranel Took.
