Unfolding Melody is a charity zine project focused on the relationship between the characters Klavier Gavin and Apollo Justice from the Ace Attorney video game franchise.

About

The project was announced on June 7, 2021. Interest checks ran from June 6, 2021 to June 21, 2021[1]. Contributor applications ran from July 14, 2021 to August 14, 2021[2].

Preorders opened on February 14, 2022, with the following pricing tiers[3]:

  • Achtung, Bundle! ($15 USD) - Digital Zine, Digital Icons, Wallpaper
  • Bundles of Steel ($30 USD) - Physical Zine, Digital Zine, All Digital Merch
  • Bundles are like... my lovers ($45 USD) - Physical Zine, Digital Zine, Prints, Random Sticker, Charm, Bookmarks, Vinyl Sticker, All Digital Merch
  • This is the first tme I've felt this way with a bundle ($60 USD) - Physical Zine, Digital Zine, Prints, Sticker Sheets, Charms, Buttons, Bookmarks, Vinyl Sticker, Enamel Pin, Digital Merch

Stretch goals included a gold foil or holographic finish to physical merch at 75 orders, an additional print 100 orders and a heart button at 150 orders[4]. Fans could purchase a digital PDF version about the making of the zine for $5. A giveaway for a free copy of the full bundle was run from February 28, 2022 to March 15, 2022, with the Twitter user FinntheFern_1 announced as the winner[5].

Preorders were meant to run until March 31, 2022 but were extended to March 17, 2022[6]. Shipping for orders began July 23, 2022[7]. Fans who ordered a physical bundle also received a mock-up ticket of a concert by The Gavinners, the in-universe band led by Klavier Gavin. Leftovers were opened in October 15, 2022 with new bundle listings in addition to purchasing items à la carte[8]:

  • Misfit ($25 USD) - Lightly Damaged Physical Zine, Digital Zine, Bookmarks, Vinyl Sticker, Enamel Pin, All Digital Merch, A choice of Gold Foil Print or Sticker Sheet
  • Mystery ($45 USD) - Physical Zine, Digital Zine, Print, Sticker Sheets, Bookmarks, Vinyl Sticker, Enamel Pin, All Digital Merch, 1 Extra Piece of Random Merch
  • Full Leftover ($60 USD) - Physical Zine, Digital Zine, Prints, Sticker Sheets, Charms, Buttons, Bookmarks, Vinyl Sticker, Enamel Pin, All Digital Merch

All physical bundles were sold out by October 16, 2022, and digital zine sales continued to October 30, 2022 [9].

On December 31, 2022, the project's social media account posted a receipt showing that $6592.86 USD was donated to the National Center for Transgender Equality[10]. With that, the project was officially closed.
