This Simple Feeling is a Kirk/Spock fanzine that is offered in both print and digital format. It was founded in February 2017 by Sammy who published the first five issues. With issue 6, the project is currently under the management of Menecio with help from Dogfeathers.[2]

From the tumblr About pages:

An annual K/S fanzine inspired by those produced in the early days of fandom. Each issue will feature fanart, fanfiction, and more from various contributors, and will be available in both print and digital format.

This Simple Feeling is a Star Trek fanzine centered around the romantic relationship between James Tiberius Kirk and S’chn T’gai Spock, which is considered to be possibly the first MLM pairing in contemporary popular culture. The first Kirk/Spock dedicated fanzine came out in June 1976, and there have been many zines featuring the pairing ever since.

Issue 5

After issue 5, in July 2020 the zine editor agreed to reject any artwork that depicted Spock with green skin.

[Anonymous]

I was wondering if you would consider disallowing portrayals of spock with green skin in future issues, as many trek fans have expressed discomfort with this due to the historic use of green skin in antisemetic caricatures. Nimoy was of course Jewish, and many aspects of Vulcan culture were pulled from Jewish culture, such as the ta’al. This is not a condemnation of the zine of its contributors, btw! Many people are unaware of the connotations of green skin on a Jewish character.

Editor: Hey!

It’s been a while since I made a new issue of the zine, and there’s been a lot more going around about this - thanks for bringing it up!

If I do any further editions of the zine, green-skinned spock will definitely not be allowed. There seemed to be a trend of it last year, and even though I wasn’t a fan of it I wasnt getting a lot of submissions and I was worried about coming off as rude to talented artists for asking them not to use it.

Now that I’m more educated on the problems with it, I’ll make sure not to make the mistake again

Notes: Also ive always said. If you're gonna draw spock green just bc he has green blood. Notes: then u should be drawing humans bright red[3]

It is unclear whether this decision was made by the original editor or the new moderator team.

Issue 6

Issue 6 was published under a new group of moderators: Menecio, Dogfeathers, Dooilim, i-drive-a-nii-san, and Arcy. For many it was the first time they moderated a fanzine publicization. [4]A contributor lineup was announced in March 2021. [5]

The issue was mailed in October 2021, was 73 pages and contained 4 stories. The zine switched from saddle binding to perfect binding and included more artwork from more artists. Accordingly the cost went up to the disappointment of a few.[6]
