The Official X-Files Fan Club (also sometimes stylized as: The X-Files Official Fanclub) was a fan-run, nonprofit official fan club for The X-Files. It was based in Glendale, California.

The fan-run X-Files Fan Club was formed with the sanction of 20th Century Fox and Ten Thirteen Productions in March 1994. A year's subscription is $20 ($30 Canadian).

The fan club, a nonprofit organization, produces X Notes, a newsletter/magazine containing news, interviews, pictures, episode guides, bibliographic information, more information on topics brought up in the show, and other items. Although net-fandom will be well represented (one section of the newsletter will be called "The Buzz from the Net"), the newsletter is targeted at general fandom. Submissions are welcome! Electronic newsletter submissions may be sent to [email protected]. A postscript version of the fan club membership application may be ftp'd from ftp.rutgers.edu; the file is pub/x-files/membership/flier.ps.

Club membership initially cost US$20 for US citizens, later US$49 for US fans. Initially it was not possible to become a member if one wasn't based in North America,[2] but later membership for European Philes were possible as well for a hefty annual fee of US$100. Each year, members got a Membership Kit,[3] which consisted of exclusive merchandise like for example an exclusive poster, stickers, behind-the-scenes photos, membership card and the like. Members also got discounts on the official merchandise. The membership kit was distributed by MVP Media. Flyer promoting the club could sometimes be found in VHS and DVDs for the show.

Activities

The club held one of the first conventions for the series in 1995 and released four Official X-Files magazines every year that members received as part of their membership.[4] The magazines were also available for purchase for non-members later at newsagents, probably after MVP Media took over the publishing. Initially it was produced by Topps, then by MVP Media.

Creation Entertainment, who later hosted the official eXpo conventions, was a sponsoring the club.
