The Lunar Chronicles is a series of Young Adult Science Fiction novels, written by Marissa Meyer, that center around iconic fairy tales such as Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Show White re-imagined into a futuristic sci-fi setting.

The series has been noted by both fans and Word of God to draw influence from Sailor Moon, particularly the involvement of a lost princess of the moon and a society of people living there.

Overview

There are four main books in the series - Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter. Each novel puts a spotlight on a different classic fairy tale protagonist in its setting, with Cinder's journey serving as the central thread that ties all of the books together. A prequel novella, Fairest, was released in 2015 prior to the publication of Winter that details the backstory of the series' main antagonist. A collection of short stories set before, during, and after the events of the main novels, titled Stars Above was released in 2016. In 2017 and 2018, 2-volume graphic novel series set after the ending of Winter called Wires and Nerve was released that explored the character and backstory of supporting character Iko, the series' equivalent of Cinderella's fairy godmother.
