The Library of Moria, or LoM, was founded shortly after the release of The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. Unlike other LotR archives at the time, its focus was movie-based slash fanfiction organized by pairing. After the release of all three movies, the archive began accepting RPS. It currently accepts all Tolkien-based slash, gen, and RPS fanfiction.
The archive has had numerous archivists, including: CommodoreMarie, Tinker Bell, Eremir, Erestor Junkie, Azzy, Half Elf Lost, Talullah, and Zoe.
For several years the archive was maintained solely by CommodoreMarie, but it was turned over in 2005 when her college course-work became too time intensive. It was taken over by a volunteer collective from the LoM Forum who has maintained it, with some minor membership fluctuation, since. It has also been migrated over to an automated archive script. The non-automated archive was last updated on March 23, 2008 and is now removed from the site, as all the older works were transferred to the automated archive.
The site continues to host separately the Journal of Slash Research and the International Day of Slash initiative.
The site went offline in January 2014 after the domain expired; the archivists announced that they were committed to restoring the archive, possibly at a new .net domain. They raised $297 in donations and were able to resecure the domain along with enough funds to operate for the next year and a half.[1][2][3]
As of February 2014, the site has been reported as being active.
In February 2022, it was announced that Library of Moria would be moving to the Archive of Our Own as an Open Doors Project.[4]

A large The Lord Of The Rings SLASH fanfiction archive for all pairings in J.R.R. Tolkien's book and movie universe. Updated frequently, this archive is easy to browse by pairing. Story summaries are included, Works-In-Progress are accepted.[5]
