The Difficult Age is a series of short stories by Florence A. Watson (fawatson) based on Mary Renault's 1953 novel The Charioteer. It is set between the first two chapters, when the protagonist, Laurie Odell, is fourteen, and his mother is thinking of remarriage.
So far, there are three stories in the series. Each is set on or around a major holiday appropriate to the time and place, respectively Armistice Day, Christmas, and Mothering Sunday.
