Talk:The Literate Union

As of August 2010, RedBootton became a source of caused by response to the Literate Union's activity. I don't understand that sentence. Also, RedBootton (RB) is a tool to find infringing stories on FanFiction.Net Does this mean copyright infringement? And what does the section with the calling it "monstrous" refer to? Who does? When and where? o_O --Doro 15:35, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

"Infringing" presumably means TOS-violating in this case. One of the primary things LU does is find smut on ffn and report it. Franzeska 15:45, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
"Infringing" is how FFN refers to breaking the guidelines and ToS among others. "Monstrous" comes from a comment: "the LU and the monstrous RedBotton actually do exist" here. To correct Franzeska, the LU does not favour one rule over another. Just that smut writers complain the most about it, creating a false impression. Fixing info on founders. -Dasgoogle 16:58, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Heh. Ok, what I should have said is that LU finds content that violates the TOS, but one of the primary kinds of TOS-violating content that's all over the place on ffn is smut, so it gets reported a lot. Franzeska 17:11, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for the explanation!! --Doro 18:50, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Edits

Making small additions with reference notes takes time. Don't mind if there's an error for a few moments; I'm bound to get on it. Put Civil Initiative as a subsection of Criticism. Should add more because right now it looks like that's the only source of criticism. -Dasgoogle 15:14, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

That's a lot of hard work you're doing. :-) --Mrs. Potato Head 15:51, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
Edits done, so if anything was left unpolished, it's an error. Umm...the start of the article is a bit dodgy, like a stub that grew without direction. Will see into it later. -Dasgoogle 16:22, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
I was going to make some redirects for the different spellings you listed at the bottom. Should the official title of this article be "Literate Union" or "The Literate Union"? --Mrs. Potato Head 16:36, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

The forum says 'Literate Union' and people search for 'Literate Union'. While it should be 'The Literate Union', it's impractical to use that as the main phrase. Hey, they refer to it as OTW, not Organisation of Transformative Works, so redirects would be useful while the current article name is fine. -Dasgoogle 16:45, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

I think I'll make the official title "The Literate Union" and make all redirects, including "Literate Union" go there. It will cover all the bases, accounting for how people refer to it and search, while preserving its official name. --Mrs. Potato Head 16:57, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Why is Category:Pokémon included on this page? The Pokémon fandom doesn't seem to be mentioned in the article. ~ Sparcicle 08:57, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

It looks like somebody added the fandoms LU has particularly gone after (or at least that had a large reaction to LU's activities). I don't think it belongs there either and have removed them. Franzeska 14:05, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Paging the Administrators

Vandalism on this page--ongoing--facetofcathy 20:29, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

I'm going to vent a tiny bit here. There are many pages on Fanlore where the regular editors are not very up on the ins and outs of what's covered on the page. No one small group can know everything about every corner of fandom. It's very difficult for us, in these cases, to provide the PPOV these pages need. That doesn't mean we don't want more points of view, particularly in a highly controversial case like what this page covers. Vandalism and attack pages are not how that's going to happen. A genuine interest and RESPECT for What Fanlore Is and its mission will be met with welcoming and openness and willingness to help bring those POVs to pages like this. Pulling childish, offensive stunts like this takes time away from the real work of making this wiki, and it's a heap of work, an endless job. A fun job, but still, crap like this takes the joy out of it, sucks the life out of it. If you, Myatruth were to front up with some respect and concern for something beyond just the hobby horse you rode in on, this page would be more reflective of how all fans think and feel about the LU. If you can't do that, it will never get better. If you do stuff like this, it gets worse because we can't clean up this mess you made and work on the wiki productively at the same time. I think you should clean it up yourself, apologize and then talk to us about how we can add more POV to this page. --facetofcathy 20:50, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
