Discussion 1

Hello. I'm still a bit of a newbie here, so I'll just present my case and let those of you who've been around for awhile figure out what (if anything) to do about it.

First, let me say that I don't know Peggye Vickers, have never met her, and don't even recall getting any letters from her. But I was moderately active in Trekdom in the late 60s and early 70s, and believe that one sentence on the LNSTFCCF page -- "Peggye Vickers was an honorary member, something that illustrates the power Vickers had over all Star Trek fan clubs at the time" -- not only conveys a misleading impression of Trek fandom of that era, but also does Mrs. Vickers an injustice.

Let me point out that (as the first paragraph of the Page mentions) the LNSTFCCF was a chapter of the LNNAF, and Peggye Vickers was not only a founder of that club, she was its president from its founding in February of 1967, which presumably explains her honorary membership in the LNSTFCCF chapter. Around February-March of 1970, she handed the reins over to Louise Stange, who changed the name to just the LNAF a few months later. Louise sent me the news of both events for inclusion in my Trek newszine DECK 6, and I'd be glad to quote those complete items here if you like.

I never heard the slightest hint that Peggye Vickers was particularly influential (or even particularly well known) in Trekdom as a whole.

P.S.: The club's name was the Leonard Nimoy *and* Star Trek Fan Club of Concernd Fans.

Welcome to Fanlore, Carol Pruitt.
First, I corrected the name of the club. Thank you.
Second, I added a section about Vickers and her role in chapter clubs, as well as added a 1967 comment from a zined that gives some background to the subject.
Third, regarding "Around February-March of 1970, she handed the reins over to Louise Stange, who changed the name to just the LNAF a few months later. Louise sent me the news of both events for inclusion in my Trek newszine DECK 6, and I'd be glad to quote those complete items here if you like," it would be great to have that information on this page: Leonard Nimoy Association of Fans, and nail down some specifics, including the date you received that info for DECK 6. --MPH (talk) 14:15, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, Mrs. Potato Head. Regarding your "First," the name of this club is confusing (I have to practically count on my fingers to get it straight) -- the "and" goes between the "Leonard Nimoy" and the "Star Trek."

Regarding your "Second," I'm not sure what section or what comment you're referring to. Are they on the main LNSTFCCF page or the main LNAF page or somewhere else?

To the best of my knowledge, Peggye had no connection (let alone "power") regarding any clubs other than the LN(N)AF and its chapters, so the current third paragraph of the LNSTFCCF page is probably misleading (and could be construed as derogatory), but could be reworded something like "Peggye Vickers was an honorary member, presumably in recognition of her role as founder and president of the LNSTFCCF's parent club, the LNAF (originally the LNNAF)."

(I can see how Peggye's direct access to Mr. Nimoy might have seemed unfair to clubs such as Vulcanian Enterprises, but if he had wanted to continue direct access with any of the small local clubs, I really don't see how she could have stopped him. Considering how rapidly the number of such clubs was growing, I strongly suspect that he wanted to simplify his own involvement by dealing with only one main club, which could then disseminate the information -- and he chose the LNNAF.)

Finally, regarding your "Third," I have now posted those items on the LNAF Talk page, from which you may excerpt or paraphrase whatever seems appropriate. At this point (fifty years later), I can't tell you exactly when I received the items, but it can be estimated by the date of prior issues (which would presumably have contained the info if it had been available). By the way, I'm about 2/3 done with transcribing all issues of DECK 6 into electronic format, after which I plan to make them available via a blog site.

Regarding the first, purely my clumsy error. I'll get it straightened out. :-)
Second topic, since Fanlore is a place to document and record fan history and fan experiences, and we include many points of view, the comments by Vulcanalia's editors regrading their experiences are valid. (See Fanlore:Plural Point of View). Your experiences and comments are also very welcome, and I would like to include your comments on this talk page on the main page. It's all part of the big picture. Added: Also, I used your better wording (thank you) on the LNSTFCCF page: "Peggye Vickers was an honorary member, presumably in recognition of her role as founder and president of the LNSTFCCF's parent club, the LNAF (originally the LNNAF)."
Regarding DECK 6 and your scanning, I'm VERY excited, and looking forward to reading them. Thank you for your work in preserving fan history!! --MPH (talk) 14:04, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

Thank you and you're welcome!

(Unfortunately I don't have a scanner, though. I'm transcribing by hand, so it'll take a while.)

Carol, perhaps I can help with that. I'm putting a message on your talk page: https://fanlore.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Carol_Pruitt&action=edit&redlink=1 --MPH (talk) 19:34, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

I have two comments regarding the section "A 1971 Publication," based on my review of that issue of the LNSTFCCF publication in DECK 6 #16:

1. Here's a quote of the entire section of my review which deals with the LNAF, just for context:

"This issue includes what seems to be a complete collection of correspondence pertaining to the recent LNAF/LNSTFCCF falling out, which I do not pretend to understand, even though I was contacted by both sides early in the argument. Suffice it to say that the LNSTFCCF is no longer a chapter of the LNAF; I assume they will revert to their former name, the STAR TREK Fan Club of Concerned Fans (STFCCF)."

The salient portion there is of course "Suffice it to say that the LNSTFCCF is no longer a chapter of the LNAF."

2. At the very end of the "1971 Publication" section, the gentleman's name is misspelt: It's L. E. Wallace, Jr. (not L. S.).

Thanks for incorporating the above into the page, MPH! --Carol Pruitt (talk) 17:59, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Attention Gardeners

This page and this one Leonard Nimoy and Star Trek Fan Club of Concerned Fans are almost identical, but the one with the typo has different information and references. The Talk page of one of them is redirected to the talk page of the other, which I guess was an attempt to redirect the one with the typo in the URL to the proper one. I thought about copying everything into the other URL and convert this one to a redirect, but perhaps someone from the fandom should take a look first, to make sure no information is lost. -- text by Alpha (10 days ago)

Alpha I believe that what happened was a page duplication due to typo and name changes on that page some time ago. According to the first discussion of this talk page, held by Carol Pruitt in 2020, this page was under the wrong name, (the correct name is Leonard Nimoy and Star Trek Fan Club of Concernd Fans to according Carol) it was fixed twice. Someone might not have noticed this and fried another page which led to diffr I suggest seeing the discussion above to check which page has the correct name and correct it if possible --Ellakbhesse (talk) 15:49, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

Thank you. Yes this is the one with the incorrect name, but in the correct one there's a few lines that are missing and I don't know if it was left out deliberatedly or not, so I decided not to touch anything and leave it to someone that is more familiar with the Club. --Alpha (talk) 19:13, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
Please don't edit my comment, I added the name as written in the first thread, it's kind of disrespectful you know? I may not know English and depend on translators, but in this point the typo of the writing is as someone else wrote it. I know next to nothing about these zines, even though I'm in the Star Trek fandom, but maybe I'll edit this page. I will see what will be done --Ellakbhesse (talk) 20:01, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
Next time you have a small problem of this kind with anyone, the sensible thing to do is send an e-mail an discuss it privately instead of embarrassing the person in public and make a fuss.--Alpha (talk) 18:10, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

Can I delete this page?

All of the info is duplicated on https://fanlore.org/wiki/Talk:Leonard_Nimoy_Star_and_Trek_Fan_Club_of_Concerned_Fans and https://fanlore.org/wiki/Leonard_Nimoy_Star_and_Trek_Fan_Club_of_Concerned_Fans. MPH (talk) 13:24, 15 November 2022 (UTC)

Go ahead! --WingedWarrior (talk) 14:06, 15 November 2022 (UTC)

MPH there is a discussion (first topic of the talk page) about the correct name of this page and some errors that happened when creating the second page. I believe if you delete that page here it would be interesting to move this talk page there if possible -- Ellakbhesse (talk) 05:10, 16 November 2022 (UTC)

I've moved the Talk page, so we can now delete the duplicate main page and the accompanying Talk page (which currently exists only as a redirect to the new name). --enchantedsleeper (talk) 21:08, 30 November 2022 (UTC)
