Furries in Fandom

I don't know anything about how Furry Fandom fits into more general Fandom history, but I think it's worth documenting. I have given it a start, but I don't even know what the issues are. --Msilverstar 04:48, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Merging

Should this article be merged w/ Furry, which is also a stub? Most of the information in either applies to both to some extent. --Betty 16:53, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

We haven't merged Slasher into Slash though. Nobody in the wiki right now seems interested in editing furry articles, so it is hard to say whether it would be better merged or separate to serve best. For example I'm not in furry fandom, though I considering my avatar self-representation as well as some of my fandom interests I definitely fit some definitions of "furry". So I'm against the merge. Whereas for example I read slash and am in slash fandom, but do not identify as slasher. ETA: What I mean is that the definiton/identification part is a different thing from the fandom surrounding it in many cases, even if there is considerable overlap.--RatCreature 17:45, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
I think that merging them is by far the right approach, so there's only one place to focus on. (If I'd seen Furry, I would not have made this page) --msilverstar 00:12, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
But why merge rather than just interlink? Precendents in other subfandoms do not merge the fandom with the fandom member term, like I pointed out above, and I think my point about identity issues vs fandom interest is as valid for furry as is it for slasher. Just because there is little content yet, because few furry-interested are editing here, does not mean we have to put it all onto one place. I think wider input should have been sought before merging, as there was no consensus, an only three people voiced an opinion. Since I have no interest in editing the furry articles myself, I can go with this merger, but I am going to link to this talk page from the other talk page so that this discussion is not lost in the talk page of a redirect, and I hope that maybe if eventually more interest in the furry pages develops, we can revisit the organization.--RatCreature 09:26, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
