Description

Fan Fiction featuring Jack O'Neill from Stargate. At this site, we will see Jack as the smart man we all know him to be.[1]

Smart Jack was a sister list to Cross-Gate, a mailing list featuring crossover fanfiction.

History

August 2004 was the month with the highest number of posts at 102 messages.

First Post

I just wanted to let everyone know that Teri and I have already

started to put links in the 'Links' section of the group.

Just like on the Cross-Gate list, we ask that you to post your links there after you post them to the list. That way you won't have to go through a long message list to find the story that you want.

So welcome to the Smart Jack list, I hope you enjoy it. Start posting those links, I can't wait to see what you guys come up with.

Welcome Letter

New members to the smartjack mailing list receieved a welcome letter detailing the list's rules:

Hi,

Welcome to the "Smart Jack" Mailing List. If you are looking for stories that show Jack O'Neill as the smart man we all know him to be then you have reached the right list.

Please read the rules, although we follow general fan conventions, we do things a little differently here than other lists.

List Purpose
Although, we are honored when our list members post their own stories directly to the list we are generally a recommendation and links list.

The purpose of this list is meant to be two fold:
1) Members who read in multiple places can share good stories - Pointing out or finding stories they missed while reading.
2) List members short on time can be pointed to stories of interest on multiple sites rather then spending time looking for things that might not suit their interests.

It is important that you offer links, the quality of this list and her links is entirely based on the good instincts of the list members.

Subject Tags
OT:
Off-topic (There shouldn't be many of these.)

FicRec:
If you label the post "FIC REC" Please take the time to include a story summary if easily available AND please say something about the story. If you really enjoyed it and think others will too, please say why. If there is something wrong with the story but is still worth reading please let us know.

FicLink:
If you label the post "FIC LINK" you don't even have to have read it. It is considered reader beware. 1) Use this selection if you just want to offer the link, didn't like the story, but thought someone else would. 2) Use it if you know it is suppose to be a smart Jack story, but haven't had time to read it. 3) Use it if you liked it but don't have the time to tell us why.

It should be noted that if your story is posted as "FIC LINK" doesn't mean it is a bad quality, only that someone didn't take the time to REVIEW it for the list members. It is not an insult!

Please note/Nota Bene: The distinction between a REC and a LINK is very important as has been an issue on our list. While we welcome any and all links, some busy members are only looking for high quality recommendations. So please make sure if you post you make it clear and use the tags.

Feedback
We encourage you to give feedback for any story you read, be it posted to the list or only a link on the list. Show the authors how much you appreciate their work. Praise is always welcome, as is CONSTRUCTIVE criticism; flames will not be tolerated.

Have you recently read a good "Smart Jack" story? Please share the link with the list. You don't have to review it, although your opinion of the story will be appreciated.

Links
The 'Links' section of this group is also open for you to add links to your favorite "Smart Jack" stories. If you add a link, please include the Title, Author, Summary, (Rating if R), and of course the link itself.

Restrictions
This list is not age-restricted, so links in the links section for stories of a graphic sexual nature, extreme violence, unreasonably obscene language, or SLASH will not be permitted.

Mention of a link to a story that contains SLASH or is aimed exclusively for a mature audience in a message post, will be tolerated, sparsely, but not encouraged. There are plenty of other lists that accept this content.

Honestly, we prefer violence, language, and sexual content that is in line with the actual show. If you are offering a link to a story that goes beyond these levels, clearly label it!

Ultimately, if you are not sure for some reason, send a note to Teri.

Moderation of New Members
Due to a past problem with spammers, all new members are automatically placed on moderation. After your first relevant post, your status will be changed to non-moderated. So be aware, if you lurk and don't post until you have been a member for 6 months, your first post is still moderated, It is simply when you post that your account is brought to our attention. I am happy to mention that we have two moderators who help with making sure that no one will wait to long to have their posts approved.

Administrative, Problems, Etc.
The list moms are Candy-Dawn and Teri, but due to circumstances Candy-Dawn is no longer active although we hope that will change at some point.

This left Teri, who has periods of being on and off-line because of non-computer related life. Therefore, because of the moderation of new members we have two moderators Malaskor and ParadigmShifter. They have been kind enough to help out so new members won't have to wait.

These moderators agreed only to help out with the administrative function of approving new member posts. If there are problems of any other nature, please contact Teri.

It is expected that members, particularly active ones, will always be watchful and either comment on problems or contact Teri.

Closing Remarks
Basically, we would like to encourage you to participate. We understand if you are hesitant, we have both been lurkers. Sometimes you join a list and you feel like you are intruding. We hope you will not feel like that here.

Thanks for joining "Smart Jack" and we hope you find some good stories.

Teri

PS: We also want to point out our sister list "CrossGate" a mailing list for Stargate Crossovers..
