Secret of the Stars is a for-profit fanzine centered on the ship between Albedo and Aether, Albedo/Aether from Genshin Impact.

About

The interest check for this project opened March 15, 2021[1] and ran until April 10, 2021[2], garnering over 270 responses, some statistics from which were posted on the zine Twitter account. Mod applications ran from March 20, 2021 to April 7, 2021[3], while contributor applications opened April 25, 2021 and were scheduled to close May 25, 2021[4], but were later extended to June 4, 2021[5]. 160 page artist applications, 47 merch artist applications, and 37 writer application were receieved[6].

During the creation period of the zine, the zine account hosted a small Twitter-poll-based choose your own adventure[7] connected with a star-sign-based scenario generator game[8].

Preorders opened on November 8, 2021 with a scheduled end date of December 12, 2021[9], which later was extended to December 26, 2021[10]. The following pricing tiers were offered:

  • Snow Covered Path ($10 USD): PDF
  • Wyrmrest Valley ($25 USD): Physical Zine
  • Skyfrost Nail ($35 USD): Physical Zine + Prints + Stickers + Sticker Sheet
  • Entombed City ($45 USD): Prints + Stickers + Sticker Sheet + Button + Wooden Standee + Charms
  • Starglow Cavern ($60 USD): Physical Zine + PDF + Prints + Stickers + Sticker Sheet + Button + Wooden Standee + Charms

PDF add-ons were available for the Wyrmrest Valley, Skyfrost Nail, and Entombed City tiers for $5 USD.

Five stretch goals were included in the project: a sticker at 25 orders, a physical zine[11] giveaway at 50 orders, an additional button pin at 75 orders, a full bundle[12] giveaway at 100 orders, and an enamel pin at 125 orders[13]. The fourth stretch goal was unlocked by December 13, 2021[14].

All zine preorders were announced shipped as of May 1, 2022[15], and announced delivered as of July 1, 2022[16]. Leftovers sales ran from August 1, 2022 to August 26, 2022[17], and all packages among those were announced shipped as of September 11, 2022[18].
