Reactions and Reviews

2013

I am rec'ing one of my very favorite stories by one of my very favorite authors, Kaye Austen Michaels (aka KAM). Back in the beginning of my fandom journey, when I was wandering around, bumping blindly into story archives, I found a few of KAM's works. I instantly fell in love with her story telling talent, her interpretation of the guys, her visual and enviable writing, and the way she presents all of the S&H love, angst, h/c, and devotion. Admittedly, I do love h/c and Hutch h/c most of all. This story is a perfect fit for my wiring, and my love of seeing them caring and so together. Then, one bright and memorable autumn day, I discovered zines, where I first encountered this story. I am delighted that "Reprieve" is now online for any and all to find so easily! In "Reprieve," KAM fills in missing contours in one of my very favorite episodes, "The Psychic." Our heroes have saved the day and the kidnapped girl, and while wrapping up some loose ends, Starsky gets a cryptic and unequivocal message from Collandra: Your partner...don't let him out of your sight. Not for a second. Confusing and barely deciperable words or no, Collandra is a psychic and Starsky is a devoted partner who quickly takes him at his literal best. The meaning behind Collandra's few words rapidly becomes clear. What becomes even more clear, later, is the full spectrum of feelings and passion the guys have for one another. This is a beautifully told story, and one that I read again and again. I hope you enjoy! [1]

Pickles! The idea that Hutch used pickles in order to get ready for Stasky's cock had me in stitches! You've got it absollutely right, KAM, humor with sex is so much... hotter and more enjoyable than the dry, almost-exceuciatingly detailed copulation I've read in other stories; for me, anyway. Thanks so much for this terrific sequel to "Psychic"! I LOVED IT!!!! [2]

I love this story so much. The h/c is woven into The Psychic very well, and the injury is scary and unusual which made it very engaging to read! And then the scene where Starsky's worked up the courage to tell Hutch his feelings, and Hutch already knows and has just been waiting... perfect! I love all the humor you put into Starsky's POV. The paragraph about endorphins during the sex scene was especially funny to me. [4]

I don't know how i ever missed reading this before. This is amazing. I love the whole conversation Starsky has with Collandra--never thought before about him having to keep Collandra out of it. And the hurt/comfort. Oh wow. I adore hurt Hutch stories and this was a scary one. Starsky 's fear was so palpable and the image of him staying by Hutch's side the whole time he was in the hospital is such a real and lovely one. This is definitely going on my re-read list! [5]
