This is an excellent read generally and a perfect mix of angst and eerie for the holiday. It was written for the 2007 Spook Me Ficathon.

The latest murder to engage our duo is an enigma wrapped up in a riddle. Everything about it is impossible. She died a slow death from starvation/dehydration. But her cousin and co-workers saw her that same day. Her 911 call, with her weak plea for assistance, came only minutes after she left her place of work. Her cousin, who had lived with her for a month, disappears and only the victim's fingerprints are found in the apartment. Not one thing is explainable and all of Jim's internal alarms are going off.

Jane's style here is very much like watching an episode of The Sentinel. Good case to be solved, great action between all the players, Blair doing his best to provide an explanation, and Jim's senses fully engaged -- but it's not immediately apparent what they are telling him. This read will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole way through.
