"Q is Forever" is a story in a Star Trek: TNG Picard/Q series by Varoneeka.

Reactions and Reviews

Q is Forever is the third in what I refer to as "Varoneeka's Bond P/Q Series" and it sets out to answer some of the questions left hanging in From Q, with Love, and Live and Let Q, as well as a couple of others that pop up in the course of this story.

There are parallel tracks running through the story, which begins with Will Riker trying to figure out the identity of his captain's new lover. Picard's evident happiness makes it quite obvious to a good number of the crew that there is a new lover, they just don't know who. How they figure it out and what the various reactions are, offer a nice glimpse into the workings of Picard's relationship with his Senior Staff.

The second track in the story concerns, of course, the new lovers themselves. In between bouts of the hot over-the-top sex we've come to expect (and love) in a Varoneeka story, Picard is finding it hard to concentrate on his job. The captain finds himself spending too much of his time needing Q, a problem when Q is called away by the Continuum. And there is another problematical question the human lover of the near-god has, and finally asks: "Making love with a mortal, limited to human experiences; is it enough for you?" In the end, the answer to Picard's question concerns both of them as it becomes clear that limiting themselves to the human experience is no longer enough for either of them. When Q is unable to exactly explain what the answer is, Picard, with his usual bravery, demands to be shown. The result is a combination of psychic and physical sex that'll knock your socks off.

Although there are two more stories already available and at least one more being worked on, the first three stories in this series are essentially parts of one story and could be very seamlessly pieced together to make up a longer work. That they aren't is not a problem, although I'm they all came out so close to one another. Regardless, anyone who is a fan of the complex relationship between two fascinating characters, or who just like good slash on principle should read these stories. As someone who writes P/Q, I've been overjoyed to see a new writer join our limited numbers. As I keep saying, lucky us. :-) [1]
