Reactions and Reviews

Great first line for this one. I love the solemnity of it.

“Well, you said you trusted me,” Avon said. “I’m not ungrateful, it’s nice to know you don’t despise me This is such, such good Avon voice. I would never have thought to write that line for him, but it's perfect. All of the stuff with whether Blake will leave is very good and fresh and makes perfect sense as a missing scene. The plot stuff of this fic is really new and different while seeming so right that it's hard to believe it hasn't been done before. I really love what Blake does with Betafarl, using the alliance he doesn't have yet for leverage. It's a great plot and it does a lot of character and emotional work too, which is true of everything plotty in this fic. I love that first eye contact with AVon, and the way it lets Blake get his groove back after being pathetic. I LOVE Blake's ruefulness and the scenes with Inga, though--would not want him any less beaten down there. You always write a good Blake (and I like when you write him sad--still love the tragic shower in Lindor Strategy), and this is no exception.

There's something particularly elegant about this fic, I think. It's a variation on a familiar theme (PGP fighting the federation), but one that really shows just how good you are, which I think often variations on a theme can accomplish, if you're really good, which you are. I also enjoy Dayna and Blake talking about men, and I really like what you did with Vila (oh, and the start of that scene with Blake drowsing is so nice and well described). Avon's message is really good Avon voice and makes for a lovely ending, and I LOVE that Blake then responds by saying something really insensitive when Avon first walks in. I know you've said before that you have a hard time imagining him not saying something that muddles it all up when he first sees Avon on GP, and I think this is a very good use of that conviction of yours. So yes, this is one of my favorites. When people call things gems, this is what they mean <3[1]
