Padmé Amidala/Sabé is a femslash pairing in the Star Wars fandom between Padmé Amidala and her Royal Handmaiden Sabé.

Canon

Padmé Amidala (portrayed by Natalie Portman) and Sabé (portrayed by Keira Knightley) made their first canon appearances in The Phantom Menace. Other canon works that have prominently featured Sabé include the novels Queen's Shadow and Queen's Peril by E. K. Johnston, as well as the Star Wars: Darth Vader comic book series by Greg Pak.[1]

Fandom

Paige Lyman of The Mary Sue has described Sabé as "the right hand of Padmé and she will always follow her, even if Padmé’s path goes elsewhere. Such intense loyalty and love for Padmé is a huge driving force for Sabé... She is quite literally the queen’s shadow, following Padmé from queen to senator in any way that she’s needed."[2]

Common tropes

  • Sabé serving as a decoy for Padmé
  • Sabé trying to prevent assassination attempts on Padmé
  • Sabé mourning Padmé after her death
  • Sabé serving as a mentor to Leia on Alderaan
  • Polyamory between Padmé, her handmaidens, and Anakin
