The ending to this one just guts you, and yet you have to read it to appreciate the genius of it all. It will leave you hurting, and longing for something else, and desperately hoping you read it wrong. You didn't. Beautiful and brutal, and not to be missed. [1]
It's About the Memories. This has always been a powerful story to me because what's done and what's remembered are two different things. This, along with Total Ecclipse, gets to me because Starsky's able to forget, but Hutch is continually on the outside looking in and remembering "this happened and I can't pretend it didn't." [2]

That's what's so heartbreaking -- not even the fact that things don't work out as they "should", but the fact that you know, you just *know*, that this is going to eat him up inside. *sniffles*
