Odaiba Memorial Day is the official Digimon Day, celebrated on August 1st. It is mainly connected to the Adventure seasons, but it is celebrated amongst many fans of the latter seasons as well.

August 1st

The date comes from an episode in the first season. Taichi Yagami comes back to the human world and realizes that it's August 1st, the same day he went to summer camp, and consequentially, the day he and his friends were sent to the DigiWorld. The day is also commemorated in Adventure 02, in the "Odaiba Memorial" episode, in which the original eight Destined Children get together with the new generation to share stories about their first adventure.

Odaiba Memorial Day has been celebrated by fans all around the world for years and even Toei and Bandai, creators of Digimon jumped in on the wagon recently.[1] Various staff have also celebrated Odaiba Day online. [2][3][4][5]

In 2014, Toei Announced the Digimon Anniversary 15th Anniversary Project[6]

In 2021, they released a teaser for an upcoming movie starring Motomiya Daisuke.[7]

Fuji TV has also recognized this date and has had multiple events on the day. In 2003, they released an album on August 1st. In 2007, the 10th anniversary of the franchise itself, they released a 10th anniversary CD with new songs in early August. In 2009, on the 10th anniversary of the series they held a live concert in Odaiba, featuring AiM and Wada Kouji on August 1st. On August 1, 2014, the "Digimon Adventure 15th Anniversary Event", which announced Digimon tri.

It's not just the fans, but the creators who recognize Odaiba Memorial.[8]

Even Arby's had a Digimon post on their social media in 2017. [9]

Fandom

Fans have gathered in Odaiba, in front of Fuji TV (which is a memorable location in the series) since the early 2000s, and all around the world, there have been different types of fandom activities taking place around August 1st.

DigimonAT, a Digimon forum, for instance, had their own version of the gathering in Portugal since 2010.[10]

Odaiba Memorial Day unites Digimon fans all over the world. Search #ObaibaDay, #OdaibaMemorialDay, #OdaibaMemorial, or #DigimonDay online, and you’ll see tons of fan art, photos, and videos celebrating the series. It’s one of my favorite things about this day.

Happy Odaiba Memorial Day to all my fellow Digi-Destined. 😁[11]
