This story isn't the type of BDSM fic I usually go for. I don't have a strong kink for one or the other of my guys being submissive or dominant, the whole "Master" and "Sir" roles the participants take on, or graphic descriptions of the sex acts performed in a bondage and sado-masochistic encounter. Rather, I get off on stories that are emotionally evocative within a control and submission dynamic. Which really means that BDSM stories are merely a variation on the types of stories that usually appeal to me: ones about mood and sensuality more than sex acts.

But I really like the set up in this story. The tense, provocative, three-way situation existing between Bodie, Doyle, and Murphy draws me in, gives me room to speculate about the pressures all three of them are juggling. While Bodie and Doyle have a loving and committed relationship, Bodie has a need for rough sex that Doyle can't or won't fulfil, so Doyle sanctions his going to Murphy to scratch that itch. It seems like a no-win situation, except perhaps for Bodie. It's painful, and yet they've all managed to arrive at a certain peacefulness with--or at least resignation to--the situation that intrigues me.

I also enjoy the way the story frames the events with scenes of the participants interacting in a normal way, grounding us in these specific characters's reality before moving them to the encounter. A bit of cool textual structuring I enjoy in and of itself.
