McTabby's Summary Executions were posts made by LiveJournal user mctabby. The posts collected summaries of Harry Potter fics from FanFiction.Net for commenters to riff on.

Samples gathered from "The Greatest Hits":

  • A Death Eater meeting. No Slash.
  • A normal girl (not really) turns out to be a you-know-thing (no, you don't know) & helps the marauders get the you-know-what (well, you don't that either) from you-know-where (or that)
  • A strange girl with a Lapine name is boarded in Hogwarts in her seventh year, and she meets up with Remus, a werewolf. She begins to get wierd feelings for him, and Remus her. But Zen has secrets.
  • A summary is described as a couple of relevant sentences stringed together conveniently to depict the main points of a piece of literature. Phht. You expect me to do THAT?
  • A wolf battling a consionsius, he is a wolf without a love.
  • A young Muggle girl finds her way into Hogwarts and also into the infamous Potions Master.
  • Virginity is a priceless delicate thing you own. It's hard to explain what it's like, but it's pure.
  • She has a scar on her forehead shaped like a slytherin, but, it lights up when she's mean or angry.
  • He needed out. He needed air. He needed to bury himself so deeply in Hermione that no one would ever get him out again.
  • Hermione is about to get married. It's a shame that she's already Missus Snape and has been since she was born.
  • In this tragic song-fic based off the Elton John song "Candle in the Wind", Oliver Wood mourns the loss of his one true love while pondering the worth of fame. This story will bring you to tears and move you in a way that very few fics ever will.
  • Remus and Sirius give all they have and take all they receive, as two atoms in an ionic bond.
  • Voldermort left someone he loved in a freezer machine before he started his killing sprees and now she is olny 15.
  • Ronald is in a cave with Draco and has the sudden urge to sing.. (really sad)

A post collecting amusing "Titles" was also created: Title Executions: A Selection of Titles - found in Various Places, out there in the Same Fandom that brings us the Summary Executions.[1]

  • Although I Be A Snape, I Be Not An Evil Person
  • Slytherin girl in Draco's claws
  • Once upon a Voldegirl
  • You and the Harry Potter gang in Middle Earth

Reactions/Reviews

Those halcyon days before stupid_free and sf_drama were over-run with sjws. Oh, and I miss lolita_fucks. And badmakeup. And fanficrants. And McTabby and summary executions. And a whole lot of other stuff that couldn't happen now anyway because we're all too fucking 'sensitive' these days.[2]

Top Ten Implausible Harry Potter Fic Premises From The Pit of Voles: I'm no Minerva McTabby and this isn't Summary Execution, but I'll give it a good old never-went-to-college try...[3]

McTabby's "Often Infested with Nargles" If you're going to read one individual fansite for Harry Potter, make it this one. For the Summary Executions alone. Although the multiple drabbles on bizarre pairings are more then worth the price of admission.[4]

So somebody made a post about summaries, and I just remembered McTabby's Summary Executions. Oh how the fandom has changed.[5]

Does anyone else remember McTabby’s Summary Executions? The best of the best Harry Potter fanfic summaries from ff dot net, back in the early aughts.

After the war, Lucius became Harry’s slave and soul mate. This is the story of their children. Rating chosen for mm relationship, mpreg, no slash.

Draco, for no discernible reason, has decided to walk to San Francisco.

It’s been sixteen years and I still quote them.[6]

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned McTabby's Summary Executions yet. McTabby collects the worst and most WTF-worthy summaries in the Harry Potter fandom and lists them so you may cringe and laugh at them.[7]

The worst logline contest reminds me of the Summary Executions over on livejournal back in the day. McTabby would collect the worst summaries she could find (from actual stories, albeit in Harry Potter fanfiction catagory) and post them. No one writes a summary like a 13-year-old fanfic-er.[8]
