Marisa Coulter is a character from His Dark Materials, being the mother of main character Lyra Silvertongue.
She's somewhat of a fan favourite in the fandom, especially with her portrayal in the TV series by Ruth Wilson, despite, or sometimes because of, the multiple abhorrent acts she inflicts on others throughout the series, from murder to child experimentation.
Marisa is often seen as a well-developed and complex character, whose cruelty is often seen as the result of the trauma of her past and time working for the Magisterium. Unlike other examples of well-liked villains with tragic pasts, however, Marisa's fans generally don't tend to justify, excuse, or deny her actions.
She has a decent sapphic fandom around her, especially her TV version.

Marisa Coulter is a woman scorned, whose relationship with her daemon is as tumultuous as her relationships with other humans, an abuser passing on the legacy of her own abuse to her child, expressing love in the most warped and dangerous way possible. Her own self-hatred fuels an obsession to find her daughter, to the cost of herself, her daemon and Lyra.[1]
